Tongue-Tie and Lip-Tie Procedure

One of a mother’s most valuable tools is her intuition. We always encourage our clients to listen to their “gut”, because ultimately they have to make the decision that is best for their family. Dr. Humphrey is here to provide resources, education, diagnosis and collaborative treatment while making space for you to feel respected and comfortable sharing your experience.

THE REALITY IS THAT WE ALL HAVE FRENUMS, BUT THEY ARE NOT ALL SYMPTOMATIC.

What is a Frenulum?

A frenulum (or frenum) is a segment of mucosal and connective tissue that holds moving parts in place, such as the tongue and lips. These tissue attachments are considered normal unless they restrict natural function and movement.

What is a Tongue Tie?

A tongue tie, or ankyloglossia, occurs when the frenulum under the tongue restricts natural function and limits movement. Many infants that have a symptomatic tongue and lip ties can have difficultly with breastfeeding.

What is a Lip Tie?

A lip tie occurs when the tissue that attaches the upper lip to the gum tissue is restrictive and creates functional concerns.

An important aspect to consider is that the tongue or lip tie is just one facet of the symptoms baby and mom are experiencing. Collaboration with a knowledgeable network of other health and wellness providers is crucial to assist families on this journey.
